Welcome to Northern Ireland Gaming. You have probably come across this site purely by accident, and if so, we apologise; otherwise you are interested in gaming and want to hear our podcast! It was started in August 2008 by Tristan, who managed to drag some of his gaming friends in on this project, who all live in Northern Ireland. Remember we are Marmite!!! We are only a few months old currently; only a few podcasts, but we are hoping to grow with time, and already people are submitting articles which you can read to your heart's content.

Alright, our exams are over, and we have 70 days of blissful summer to enjoy. And you know what that means…Updates! Regular, glorious updates for our starved fans that have clutched onto this sporadically renewed website.

Said updating shall begin soon enough, whenever Tristan finishes his editing on the new episode, but until then, I shall give you my thoughts on Sony’s E3 conference.

As far as it goes, I would have to say that Sony was on par with Microsoft. Natal just beat Sony’s motion controller, at least as far as marketing potential goes, and Sony’s future game lineup was superior to Microsoft’s.

Don’t agree with me? Tough luck, I’m the one with all of the writing privileges!

I mean, Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Final Fantasy XIV (Yes, it’s on the PC, but whatever), Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (If Metal Gear Solid: Rising is canon, I’ll eat a hat), Agent, Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines, Fat Princess, and the list could go on.

A special mention goes out to Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, because it will, like all of the R&C games, be amazingly good.

I suppose that the main thing about Sony’s conference was the motion sensing controller. I’m all for it, even if it is a blatant attempt to jump on the back of Nintendo’s money-making bandwagon. However, they wish to actually use said motion sensing technology to its full potential, which I am happy to see.

The accuracy is second-to-none, and with the additional processing power of the PS3, the sky’s the limit. What we saw was a tech demo, and it was just that, a tech demo, but throw in some gameplay elements beyond firing a bow, and Sony will be on to a winner. Providing that they can incorportate a method for the player character to move about, of course.

I guess I had better put something here, lest your RSS readers think NIGaming is dead. The guys are all back from Milan and I’m sitting at home revising. What a wonderful time to update.

As we mentioned in our last podcast, the DSi has arrived on our shores. I have managed to get a wee hands-on and must say I am surprised at the size of it, it manages to be smaller than a DS lite (impressive huh?) and have bigger screens.

The cameras are nothing to boast about but messing around with them was fun (probably would get boring after a few days.

My nagging feeling about the DSi was confirmed; I guess I could have known, Nintendo using the ‘i’ prefix that seems so iPopular these days. This is £150 for a DS with an SD slot and music player. No doubt Nintendo has a list of ‘fun’ things on its Appstore, sorry WiiWare shop, the terms are so similar these days.

Another iNteresting thing about the DSi is the concept of ignoring the most popular music format .mp3 in favor of .AAC of the Apple variety. These are merely ramblings of a internet-er stuck in on a rainy day but I think Apple and Nintendo may have something going on. Apple are currently trying to market the iPod Touch as a gaming console and what better help could they get than a master of handhelds , Nintendo. Otherwise the Fraunhofer Institut are being stingy with their patents. Whatever the cause I hope Ninty manage to dig themselves from this pitfall.

Enough of me, I’d better get back to revision no sleep for the wicked eh?
